January 03 News According to TMZ Sports reports, Grizzlies guard Ja Morant said this
The former was indicted for allegedly assaulting a minor during a basketball game in Tennessee last July.
The lawsuit was filed last September in Shelby County.
Court records show the case is closed.
It all started with a brawl at the NBA star’s Tennessee home on July 26.
According to police documents, a 17-year-old who filed the complaint on Sept. 9 told officers he was playing basketball with Morant at their home and the two got into an altercation.
The plaintiff said the altercation became so heated that he threw a basketball at Morant — "accidentally" hitting Morant in the face.
The teen said Morant then walked up to him, put his chin on his shoulder and asked a bystander "Should I do this to him?"
Morant then "clenched his fists tightly and knocked him to the ground." After he fell to the ground, Morant continued to beat him, and another man came to participate in the beating.
Doctors said they noticed a "large bump" on the teen’s head.
Morant told police he did hit the teen, but insisted he acted in self-defense.
Morant said the plaintiff threw the ball at him "intentionally" during the altercation and then "started approaching him as if he wanted to fight."
Morant revealed that "his brother" was also involved in the altercation — but did not name the man.
Both said the game was interrupted by spectators shortly after it started.
Morant told police that the teen "verbally threatened to ‘set his house on fire’" as he was escorted out of the house.
"He and his family are terrified by this threat," Morant said.
Police investigated for several weeks before referring the case to the district attorney’s office on Oct. 4.
Less than a month later, police revealed that the district attorney declined to charge.
It is unclear what the plaintiffs are seeking in the lawsuit.
Court records show Morant and his childhood friend Davante Parker are both named as defendants.
CNN has reached out to Morant’s representatives for comment but has not yet heard back.
